We have about 6 in.of snow and it is cold. We have a great hill in our new back yard that Elise and Micah are taking advantage of. Our new home is great but sometimes I have to pinch myself because it is still a little surreal that we do not live in Boise. Work is going well and we are slowly making new friends.

We are going to this new church that is a lot different than the Nazarene Church. The name of the church is Fresh Life Church and Levi is a very gifted pastor. Check it out. www.freshlifechurch.com warning: If you listen you may get saved.

This week Mara and I went out on a date to the Banff Mtn film Festival and not only was it sweet to see how crazy people are, it was inspiring too. Living in Montana I may need to live on the edge a little more. http://www.banffcentre.ca/mountainfestival/ Not sure I will pick up ice climbing but it is cool to watch these guys do it! Maybe we'll start with some extreme snow-mobiling. :)

Dearest Friends and Family,

Hello! We have news (no we are not expecting), we are moving to Kalispell, MT! I know.... crazy! We have felt a pull to be closer to family for a couple of years now and God has opened the doors for us to do that. Scott interviewed with a property management company in Kalispell last Monday, was offered the job, and they want him to start a.s.a.p. He gave his two weeks at Commercial Northwest and his last day there will be Aug. 31. We will be loading a truck on Tues. night the 30th and planning to drive out of town on the 1st of Sept. He will start on the 2nd in Kalispell for a local property management company. He is excited about the new opportunity and the skills he will be bringing to the company. Why Kalispell? Mara’s sister Erin and her family live there and their convincing and luring has finally worked. It is a beautiful place, and a lot closer to family (only 4 hours to see grandparents instead of 8). We are going to keep our house in Boise and will rent it out. We have already found a renter (God is so good!) and this will always give us an excuse to come back and visit (as if we need one). We plan to rent in Kalispell for a bit while we get a feel for the city and housing market there. This move seems so fast but God has just worked out the details and timing, we are confident that this is where He wants us. It is bitter sweet as we are both excited for the new adventure and sad to leave. We have so many dear friends in Boise (you) and we will miss you all tremendously. We hope to see you before we go so we can get one last hug (or high five). Our door is always open and we would love for you to come visit in Kalispell- it is truly breathtaking with Glacier Park close by, skiing, Flathead Lake, etc. Know you are loved and will be missed.

It is finally 80 degrees this weekend. Summer is going to be here very quickly. We still need to plant the garden. I think we are behind the 8 ball. I am playing in a old man soccer tournament this weekend with Joe Joe and friends. It should be fun but I am sure I would enjoy it more if I was in a little better shape. Mara is already off garage selling at the YL garage sale this morning looking for the next treasurer to put in our garage. Then we are headed to the park to watch/play soccer. Going to enjoy the sun while it's here. Love Saturdays!

For Lent I committed to reading my Bible each day for the next forty days. I guess I am giving up time.

We are selfish by nature and giving up time to read the Bible is not easy for me. Reading is not the most fun activity for me plus the Bible is not the easiest book to understand.

The cool part so far is I am re-learning small and simple truths that I should know by heart, but have forgotten over time. I think that is why God calls us have devotions and get in His Word.

I am starting to watch college basketball so March Madness here we come. Are you ready? At basketball this week one of the players started yelling out Jimmer what is short for Jimmer Fredette he plays for BYU and shoots the lights out. I hope that Kentucky makes a deep run this year. Enough about basketball. This week Micah started putting his face under water and is holding his breath so I think it is time for him to turn into a small fish. I am going to the store to get him some goggles so he doesn't have to where Elise's old pink ones. Tobin is getting so big I forget how fast kids grow. He is doing a great job of holding his head up and looking around and smiling back at all who give him a smile.

Last day left of the fast. I have not missed the TV throughout the week, but the weekend has been painful. I know that God was telling me that the TV was taking up too much time in my life and that is why I was convicted to fast the TV for 21 days. I didn't know how much I loved watching sports. I truly felt sad that I was missing watching football on the weekends. I did feel myself getting a little depressed last weekend. It has given me new perspective on how much TV I watch during the week.

Day 11 for the fast

I am passing the no TV time by reading SI, playing games on the computer, and staying busy every night with activities. I don't think this is fully what God had planned for me during this time. Tonight will be the first night of the fast that I am going to read my Bible. God is showing me this fast is not about the things I don't get to watch on TV but about the added quality time spent with Him and family.

I was showing an apartment today and the lady had her grandchild with her. The kid wanted to see out the window. I didn't want to lift the kid up to see out the window nor did I want the kid standing on the base board heater so I showed the kid that if he steps back away from the window he would be able to see out the window. I told him this is called "perspective" then I listened to myself and I knew that God was telling me to step back away from the window of life and get some perspective on the fast.

Little lessons from God. :)

Fast Day 8 - No TV

This weekend I broke down and watched about 20 mins of the Pats vs Jets football game. Mara ashed me "why are you doing the fast?" I guess I have to ask myself why. Mara was very impressed with all the things I have be blogging about. Was that why I am doing the fast so I could tell myself that I wanted to be closer to God, but not give God the time to work. I guess I have missed the point of the fast. When I was checking the football scores and wanting to watch I should have been telling God how much I need His strength. This Sunday is going to be another tough weekend but I am going to learn from my weakness. I will keep you posted. Please pray for me that God will make me stronger in my spiritual walk.

Thank you to Rachel for coming down to Boise and spending time loving on our kiddos. It was great to have another set of hands to hold Tobin. Rachel also played a lot of cars with Micah and Go Fish with Elise. Great to see you Rach. Sorry we were fasting TV but in the long run we got to talk more and had better quality time.

Fasting- Jan. 12, 2011

We are about to complete day Day 3 of fasting television as a family. I decided to also fast sweets so no nightly peppermint ice cream fix for me. I don't miss the t.v. and am totally enjoying the time with the kids and Scott. It is amazing to me at how much of a distraction the t.v. can be. Micah might miss the TV the most as he asks daily "Mommy, can I watch t.v.? Mom, can I watch a movie?" Yikes- what does that say about my 2 1/2 year old? He doesn't watch more TV than his 4 1/2 yr. old sister, but he certainly likes it a lot more. So, the fast is good for us all. God is showing me how t.v. and other things can so easily distract, suck up time, and invade our lives and we don't even realize it. I do miss the sweets but it is a small sacrifice compared to the one my heavenly Father gave. Personally, I am praying for direction in our future, peace and contentment if God wants us to stay the course we are currently on, and for a renewed passion for Him and sharing the Truth with others. Also for the broken hearts that are around us and asking God for wisdom in how we can help. I'll keep you posted.

Where did the TV go?

Day 2, -- I think our TV is still there but I am not checking because if I open the armoire I don't trust myself. I did miss the most important game of college football and it did not feel that bad, only because I don't know what I missed. What is God teaching me? I have had things going on these last two nights, so I have not put in to practice the fullness of the fast. Prayer, Reading, and the most important part listening to God.

One thing that I have noticed is that the house is quieter and the kids are going to sleep earlier because they are not hearing the TV at night.

I am only writing this next sentence because it is day two and I am feeling confident that I will be able to fast for the full 21 days. "Fasting the TV is easier than I thought." I am not saying that with the intent to tempt God to move the super bowl earlier or come out with new TV shows that I want to watch. I only say that because at this time I am feeling confident that if needed I could do with out a TV. WOW that was hard to write but living life is more important than TV.

I better stop before I get too carried away and God shows me what real confidence is and sends me to Africa.

Sun Down -- Let the Fast Begin.

We have officially started the fast. Mara closed the armoire and to tell you the truth I am sad that I will not be able to watch football for the next 21 days. I know, that is pathetic. I guess I have some growing to do. Please first pray with me that God will change my attitude toward the fast, so that I can go deeper. Deeper in the spirit, deeper in family time, deeper in my marriage.

I need to set some guidelines for myself these next 21 days. TV that is classified as entertainment, will not be watched. For example, if I go out to lunch and the restaurant has a TV then I will need to sit with my back to the TV. On the other hand, we are in a Sunday School class that is watching a video series so I will watch that on the TV because it is glorifying to God. I am sure God is not calling me to fast time learning about Him. I am sure there will be other situations that will come up for me to blog about.

Thank you for taking this fasting journey with me and feel free to join me if it is only for a day or week.

Fasting

On Sunday we are starting a TV fast for three weeks. That means no football, no basketball, no Mentalist, no Parenthood, no Castle.... To be honest the football is going to be the hardest, but I am going to check score updates on espn.com. The reason I am fasting is to bring a fresh set of eyes. Sometimes you have to make a change and/or step away from your normal routine to see where you have been and see where you are going. This will hopefully bring enlightenment thus positive changes. I am fasting TV because each night I watch about 2 or 3 hours before going to bed. It is to easy for me to sit and watch TV and veg. I am a little scared that I am going to have more time on my hands then I know what to do with. Yes, there are a lot of projects that I can do around the house. Yes, I could go to the YMCA and exercise. Yes, I could read a book. I think I better have a plan so this fast is productive and I don't just fill the TV time with another veg activity. Feel free to pray with me and for me that God will be able to work in my life and my family through this time.

4th of July Weekend

We left Boise on Thurs. evening and headed up to Lake Cascade to spend the weekend with the Davis Family at their cabin. We tubed, wakeboarded, played, and had a great time with Gregg, Gina, Brooks (3), Claire ( 8 mo.), Papa/Phil and Gma Suze/Suzie, and nephew Nathan. Sat. night we all loaded the boat and crossed the lake to watch the fireworks, launched at the golf course. We tied up with two other boats of friends and family of the Davis'.

It snowed in Boise this weekend! Today we got all bundled up and went outside to play in it. Here is Elise and Cascade (our next-door neighbor) being pulled on the sled. It was too dry to make a snowman, but we still had fun playing in it. Micah was inside taking a nap so he has yet to experience it. He is crawling all over the house and pulling himself up on everything. Yikes! Slow down kiddo, mama's not ready for you to walk yet.

Wow, has it been this long since I posted? Life has been busy in the Strobel household. We put our tree up last week. It took us three days to complete the trimmings, but it is up and the rest of the house decorated too. Here is Elise helping me while Scott was the photographer. She is such a good little helper!

My friend Karli called me Thursday morning and invited us to go to the Boise Zoo with them. We bundled up the kids (it was 45 degrees when I left the house) and headed to the new African exhibit. It was our first time seeing the giraffes and lions. One of Elise's favorite things to do is roar like a lion (she especially enjoys roaring in her brother's face which usually results in almost immediate crying) and this trip only fueled that fire, yippee. Even though it was cold, the sun was shining and we all had a great time!

Elise was helping me get ready to leave the house by going through the diaper bag. When she found the sunscreen she decided Micah needed some before he could go outside. She didn't get it on his clothes, in his eyes, or in his mouth (that I know of) so that was good! She is quite the little helper.

Micah started eating rice cereal last week. He will turn 5 months on the 2nd. Wow, where does time go? He seems to be getting the hang of eating from a spoon though a lot of it does end up on his chin. He is also rolling from his back to his tummy though he hasn't quite figured out how to get back on his back. Elise is always entertaining Micah, lunch time is no different.

Elise and I went to Roaring Springs Water Park with our friends Gina and Brooks Davis. The kids had a great time playing in the water, going down tube water slides all by themselves, floating in the lazy river, and playing on the teeter-totter. Lots of splashing too!

We took a vacation in July and headed north to see family. We first stopped at Scott's mom's for a few days, then headed to the cabin, then back to Mom's, then to Seattle for cousin Erica's wedding. It was a great to be with family!

Most of the family was able to be together for a few days at Scott's grandparents' cabin. The Strobels weren't using it that week so we were able to enjoy it. We all had a blast and wonderful memories were made.

Mike, Laura, Mark and Beth stopped in Boise to see us on their road trip from Texas. They arrived at our house in the middle of the night and crashed on our living room floor for a few hours of sleep. We all had lunch at a park and they hit the road again. It was great to see them and we are so excited they are back up north. We missed them!

We celebrated Father's Day by going to church, watching the U.S. Open and game 5 of the NBA finals. I made waffles for lunch and we had Olive Garden (Scott's favorite) take out for dinner. Micah had his two month dr. appointment. He is weighing in at 14 lbs. 6 oz. and is now 24.5 in. tall. He is ten weeks old today. Shots were not fun, but he is making it through.

Saturday and Sunday are our favorite days of the week. Though we don't really get to sleep in anymore, we do get to do some relaxing. Scott usually cooks a big breakfast Saturday mornings or Sundays after church. He is an expert breakfast chef so I don't even try to compete. Today after church he made breakfast for us all, our friend Kelly was in town and joined us too. Look at how well he balances pouring pancakes and holding Micah. He is such an amazing dad! He is never too busy to play with Elise, changes Micah's diapers when they are oozing out the sides, gives hugs and kisses, burps Micah, plays ring-around-the-rosie, bathes, sings, dances, laughs, prays for them and with them, teaches, and most of all loves. Loves them with his heart, his words, and his example. I am so proud to call him my husband and the father of my children. Happy Father's Day Scott. We love you Daddy!
